Children in year 1 enjoyed a trip to the seaside this week to become a lighthouse keeper for the day! As part of their topic on the seaside the class traveled to Whitley Bay to visit St Mary’s Lighthouse. The book they have been studying ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’ was brought to life when they climbed the 137 steps to get to the lantern room. The children also compared the area in which they live to the seaside, noting the differences whilst enjoying the environment. The class particularly liked rock pooling where they found lots of crabs, starfish and even a porcupine fish! They finished their exciting day with a spot of art, creating sculptures with what they found on the beach.
