Throughout the week an artist (Emma Shankland) from Durham Banner Makers has been working with our children to design and paint a banner for the school. The project is lottery funded and run by the Northern Heartlands organisation. The banner will be paraded as part of an event coming to Willington on 30th June called ‘The Man Engine Parade’. The Man Engine is the largest mechanised puppet ever built in the UK and stands at a height of 11.2 m (roughly the same as 3 double decker buses). We will send out information regarding the parade, which will be followed by an afternoon of family fun on the green, nearer the time. Children from years 4, 5 and 6 contributed to the design of the banner but it was our Year 6 children who were given the responsibility of bringing it to life with vibrant paint colours. As you can see from the photos they are doing an amazing job and we can’t wait to see the finished design!
