As part of year 2’s topic on transport the class had a fun introduction to railway history when they visited the National Railway Museum in Shildon this week . Children learned about some of the museum’s most exciting exhibits and had a chance to climb aboard the footplate of locomotives as well as discovering their history and how they operate. Children found the trip fascinating and it helped them answer key questions on their return to school. For example, how is transport used in the local area? What was transport like in the past and how has transport changed over time? Children particularly enjoyed the hands on activities and dressing the part as engine drivers.
