Children are supported by the adults in the setting to access writing activities which they can use throughout the setting. They have experience of mark making in various different materials such as flour, sand and slime. Children are encouraged to start recognising and writing their own names. Children practise the skills they have learned throughout the day in adult-led activities and in their own play. We have a stimulating reading area where the children can explore books at their own leisure, choosing their favourites and re-enacting them with the use of puppets.
