PE and Sport Premium

Sports Premium Provision

At Willington Primary School our motto is TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More, and we truly employ this in our PE lessons, encouraging team spirit, cooperation and collaboration, as well as healthy competition. We passionately believe that leading an active lifestyle can benefit the children both physically and mentally, and our high quality delivery of PE, Physical Activity and School Sport, provides all children with opportunities to develop their physical skills, communication skills, evaluative skills and teamwork.

Department for Education VISION for the Primary PE and Sport Premium is that:

ALL pupils leaving primary school are physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.’

At Willington Primary School we believe PE & Sport play an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.  We have welcomed the Government’s announcement to extend the Sport Premium to help primary schools improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils and we are committed to using this resource for developing high-quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all of our young people.  We have a PE specialist HLTA Mr Littlefair, based in our school to ensure that all pupils at Willington Primary School get the best sport and health opportunities as possible.

The funding has been provided to ensure impact against the following OBJECTIVE:

‘To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. It is important to emphasise that the focus of spending must lead to long lasting impact against the vision (above) that will live well beyond the Primary PE and Sport Premium funding.’

It is expected that schools will see an improvement against the following 5 key indicators:

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles.
  2. The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for a whole school improvement.
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  4. Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.
