Year 5 went on a very exciting trip to Harehope Quarry, Frosterley. Children have been learning in class about how rivers change along their course (especially the River Wear) from source to mouth. Harehope and the surrounding area was an ideal location to investigate further as its natural habitats include ponds and streams. The class carried out field work measurements at Harehope Gill and Bollihope Burn to compare their width, speed flow and depth. Luckily the snow kept away and the children had a fantastic time. They said it was the best trip they had ever been on even though they got a little bit wet! Lucy, the quarry guide, was particularly impressed by the knowledge and behaviour of the children. Well done year 5!
