Children in year 4 visited the Life Science Centre in Newcastle last week to learn all about volcanoes. The children attended a workshop where they had to decide where to site a new town through investigation and decision making processes. They learnt how to identify rock samples associated with explosive volcanic activity and applied their knowledge to a geological map to decide where the town should be situated. The workshop finished with an experiment where they discovered how explosive volcanoes really can be! Year 4 also had time to have a tour of the centre and were lucky enough to engage in a spot of ice skating!
