As part of year 5’s geography lesson this week, children made Play Doh mountains. They used dental floss to slice through the mountain. Each slice was drawn around on a piece of paper. The lines left behind on the paper helped the children to understand how mountains are represented on maps. The class could see the greater the elevation, the closer together the contour lines were. This helped the children to plot a safe route up the mountain by choosing the path with the gentlest incline.
