Children in reception class are taking part in a ‘Make a Difference Campaign’ The campaign is a child led project that supports children in identifying, researching and addressing a concern that they want to do something about by developing awareness, fundraising or taking direct action. After much discussion the class identified four things, helping the elderly, helping other children, helping the homeless and providing food for food banks. This week they held a ballot just like grownups do when deciding on a Prime Minister! There was a tie between elderly and children in the community. Another ballot was held and with 17 votes to 12 children was the most popular. Over the next few weeks the class will be thinking about how to help children in the community who don’t have much to do after school or on weekends. Well done reception.

Children in reception class have been learning about night and day. They had some special visitors in the form of nocturnal animals. Children began their nocturnal journey by reading the book ‘Owl Babies’ and were fascinated when a real owl came to see them! Children were able to stroke and hold the animals. Evie said “There were mice and they crawled everywhere!” and Finley couldn’t believe that the lizards tail fell off when it was scared! As you can see children had a wonderful time, not so sure the snake was a hit with everyone though!
September 2017
Parents and carers of our new reception children were invited into the classroom to experience and enjoy our learning environment with their child. The children had great fun showing their parents around their classroom and letting them know what they get up to in school each day! From painting, modelling, building creations, writing to playing in the sand everyone had a fantastic time. The sessions are also a great way for families to meet each other, have a chat in a relaxed atmosphere and get ideas on how they can support their child’s learning from the Early Years staff. Miss McCartney would like to thank everyone who attended and said “I think this is the best turnout yet! I am looking forward to the next one!”
It is always a special day when we welcome our new reception children to their first day at Willington Primary School and this year was no different. Looking very smart in their crisp new uniforms, the children have had a fantastic first week. Despite the inevitable first nerves, everyone seemed really excited about starting reception class and new friendships are already being forged. All the staff are looking forward to seeing them develop in the years ahead.
