When we are thirsty it has been shown that our mental performance including our memory, attention span and concentration may decrease by around 10%. In the case of younger people in a learning environment good hydration will reduce the tiredness, irritability and disorientation that thirst and dehydration can cause.
Studies have found that children who are dehydrated do not work as well in the classroom as those who have drunk the recommended eight glasses of water a day. It has been widely documented that keeping hydrated can increase concentration, reduce fatigue and result in a more relaxed and productive environment.
Therefore, we aim to encourage pupils to drink more water to aid concentration in the classroom and individual water bottles are available to purchase from the school office for £1.50.
